The location is just off Exit 42 from the Maine Turnpike and is accessible from Route #1. The area already has sewer, water and natural gas lines as well as state of the art electric and telecommunication facilities. As a coastal community, Scarborough offers its residents spectacular ocean views from Higgins Beach, Pine Point and Prouts Neck , along with rivers for canoeing and kayaking and offer three thousand acres of marshes as well as forests and farm lands. For those of you wanting to get off the beaten path check out the Eastern Trail which now has 4.1 miles that stretch across the marsh from Black Point Road into Old Orchard Beach. The Maine Audubon Society has a seasonal Nature Center located on the Scarborough Marsh, with its 3100 acres of wildlife habitat offering canoe rentals and guided trips, and bird watching.
The famous American painter, Winslow Homer, captured its essence in his paintings of Prout’s Neck, a nearly isolated peninsula. The Portland Museum of Art just recently acquired Winslow Homer’s Studio which serves as an historic art gallery and event location.
